If you are considering buying any of the new or second hand cars and bikes available, you may be tempted to go for the one that catches your eye, the real flashy one which just screams out to the world about what type of person you are and represents your identity.
If so, you may just wish to think again, as it is often better to go with your head rather than your heart in such cases.
If you go with a flash car, even a second hand one, instead of a practical run around you may well be getting one with a much bigger engine and it will be practically impossible to find cheap car insurance , especially if you do not have a no claims history. A solid and dependable smaller car might not be the image you want to portray but it will be far kinder on your wallet.
An older, fancier car with loads of character might also consume much more petrol than a modern run-around which is designed with fuel efficiency in mind and you may soon find yourself wishing that you had chosen a smaller model as you struggle with escalating fuel costs.
So before you put your hand in your wallet to pay for the slightly older but infinitely more impressive car of your dreams, consider the more modern, not so attractive but definitely cheaper one in the forecourt.
